Ipilimumab once every three weeks, in combination with nivolumab, is an approved frontline treatment option for patients with intermediate- or poor-risk advanced renal cell carcinoma (aRCC). This treatment is associated with an unfavorable toxicity profile. The multicenter phase 2 PRISM trial in the United Kingdom evaluated ipilimumab once every twelve weeks in combination with nivolumab (modified) for these patients. Patients were randomized 2:1 to standard versus modified ipilimumab in combination with nivolumab. The toxicity profile of the modified treatment was favorable compared with the standard treatment. Informal comparison of treatment groups did not suggest any reduction in efficacy with the modified schedule.
