Multicenter phase 2 trial of immediate surgery compared with short-course neoadjuvant therapies for borderline resectable pancreatic cancer
Prof. Paula Ghaneh
The randomized phase 2 ESPAC5 trial in the UK and Germany compared immediate surgery versus three types of short-course (8 week) neoadjuvant therapy for patients with borderline resectable PDAC. There was no signifcant difference in resection rates between patients randomized to immediate surgery and patients randomized to short-course (8 week) neoadjuvant therapy. Short-course neoadjuvant therapy had a significant survival benefit compared with immediate surgery, with the best survival seen with neoadjuvant gemcitabine-capecitabine or neoadjuvant FOLFIRINOX.
