Adults with acute myeloid leukemia have unsatisfactory clinical outcomes and rates of complete remission. A phase 2 trial in three centers in China evaluated the combination of first-line venetoclax and 3 + 7 daunorubicin and cytarabine chemotherapy (DAV) for AML in adults. Composite complete remission after one cycle of DAV was seen in 91% of patients, and 97% of patients with complete remission had undetectable residual disease. One-year event-free survival and overall survival rates werd 72% and 97%, respectively. The authors conclude that the DAV regimen is an effective induction therapy for newly diagnosed AML in adult patients.
