Platinum-doublet chemotherapy plus immunotherapy is the standard of care for first-line treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer lacking actionable driver mutation, but optimization of drug combinations is needed. The multicenter phase 2 CAPAP-Lung trial in China evaluated the combination of camrelizumab, apatinib, and nab-paclitaxel for previously untreated advanced adenocarcinoma without known EGFR or ALK mutations. Patients received four to six three-week cycles of the combination, and patients with controlled disease received maintenance treatment with camrelizumab and apatinib. The confirmed objective response rate was 64.1% (95% CI 51.1-75.7), while median progression-free and overall survival were 14.3 months and not reached, respectively. The safety profile was manageable. The authors conclude that the combination might be a potential first-line treatment option in patients with advanced lung adenocarcinoma lacking EGFR/ALK mutations.
