Mortality trends in multiple myeloma after the introduction of novel therapies in the United States
Prof. Shaji Kumar
Comparison of outcomes of multiple myeloma in patients of the Mayo Clinic and patients with data in the SEER database found that during 2004-2018 both groups had decreased early mortality and increased 5-year overall survival. Excess mortality (compared to the general population) decreased during the study period among Mayo Clinic patients and remained largely unchanged among SEER patiënts. Patients with unfavorable disease characteristics have derived disproportionately less benefit from recent advances in the field.
