Mortality in patients with nonfunctional adrenal tumors
Dr. Jonatan Lindh
It is not clear whether nonfunctional adrenal tumors (NFAAs) are associated with increased mortality. A retrospective case-control study in Sweden that included 17,726 NFAA cases and 124,366 general population controls found that the overall mortality among the NFAA patients was higher compared with controls (aHR 1.21; 95% CI 1.16-1.21) during median follow-up of 6.2 years (IQR 3.3-9.6). The relative association of NFAA with overall mortality was similar in women and men. Mortality due to cardiovascular diseases was increased (aHR 1.21; 95% CI 1.13-1.29) as was mortality due to cancer (1.54; 1.42-1.67).
