Meta-analysis of chemotherapy plus PD-(L)1 blockade as first-line treatment for unresectable pleural mesothelioma
Dr. David Planchard
Meta-analysis of four trials (349 patients) evaluated the combination of platinum-based chemotherapy and PD-(L)1 blockade as first-line treatment for unresectable pleural mesothelioma (PM). The pooled objective response rate was 59.2% (95% CI 50.3-67.9) and the disease control rate was 92.2% (89.2-94.8). Probability of progression-free survival was 63% (95% CI 53-71) at 6 months and 25% (21-31) at 12 months, while 6-month an 24-month overall survival rates were 88% (81-93) abd 39% (34-45). The authors conclude that first-line chemo-immunotherapy showed promise as a potential novel treatment approach for unresectable PM.
