Maintenance olaparib for newly-diagnosed advanced ovarian cancer in patients with a BRCA mutation: 5-year follow-up
Dr. Susana Banerjee
There is a high unmet need for treatments that increase the chance of long-term remission and possible cure for women with newly diagnosed advanced ovarian cancer. The multinational phase 3 study SOLO1/GOG 3004 randomized patients with newly diagnosed advanced ovarian cancer and a BRCA mutation, with a complete or partial response after platinum-based chemotherapy, to up to 2 years of olaparib maintenance or placebo. The median PFS was 56.0 months with olaparib versus 13.8 months with placebo (HR 0.33; 95% CI 0.25-0.43). The authors conclude that the benefit from 2 years’ maintenance therapy with olaparib was sustained beyond the end of treatment.
