Long-term outcomes of adjuvant denosumab in postmenopausal breast cancer
Prof. Michael Gnant
Adjuvant aromatase inhibitors (AIs) are standard of care for postmenopausal women with HR-positive, early-stage breast cancer, but increase risk for osteoporosis and fractures. The phase 3 ABCSG-18 study in Austria evaluated addition of denosumab versus placebo as an adjuvant to AI therapy. Long-term follow- up of the study (median 8 years; IQR 6-9.6) showed that disease-free survival (A), bone metastasis-free survival (B), overall survival (C), and time to first clinical fracture (D) were better with denosumab compared to placebo.
