Long-term outcomes after minimally invasive versus open left pancreatectomy for resectable pancreatic cancer

The multinational randomized DIPLOMA trial showed comparable radical resection rates after minimally invasive left pancreatectomy (MILP) and open left pancreatectomy (OLP) in patients with upfront resectable pancreatic cancer. Long-term outcomes of the trial have now been published. In this randomized trial including 258 patients, the long-term follow-up results showed no significant difference in median overall survival or median disease-free survival between MILP and OLP. The authors conclude that these findings support the long-term oncological safety of MILP in patients with upfront left-sided pancreatic cancer (visual abstract).
