Long-term oncologic prognosis with minimal access breast surgery vs conventional breast surgery for early-stage breast cancer

Minimal access breast surgery (MABS) has been used in breast cancer management, although long-term prognostic data associated with MABS versus conventional breast surgery (CBS) are lacking. A retrospective cohort study in China compared long-term outcomes of MABS and CBS for stage 0- III breast cancer. After propensity score matching there were no significant differences between the MABS group and the CBS group for local recurrence-free survival, regional recurrence-free survival, distant metastasis-free survival, or overall survival. The authors conclude that MABS may be a safe and feasible alternative to CBS in early-stage breast cancer.
