Long-term morbidity in survivors of AML treated with blood or marrow transplantation
Dr. Saro Armenian
Blood or marrow transplantation (BMT) is an integral part of consolidation and/or salvage therapy for AML patients. The multicenter BMT Survivor Study in the USA found that among patients surviving after BMT for AML the burden of severe/life-threatening conditions
was substantially higher when compared with a sibling control group, contributing to increasing incidence of non-relapse-related mortality
over time. Chronic graft-versus-host disease was an important risk factor for these conditions.
