Long-term morbidity and mortality in children after in utero exposure to maternal cancer
Dr. Iben Greiber
Diagnosis of cancer in pregnancy is associated with concerns about the short- and long-term health consequences of the unborn child. A nationwide cohort study including 2,526,163 Danish children, with 690 (0.03%) exposed to maternal cancer in utero, found that fetal exposure to maternal cancer was not associated with increased overall mortality, nor was it associated with somatic or psychiatric morbidity. No health consequences of chemotherapy exposure in utero were detected.
