Long-term morbidity and mortality among survivors of neuroblastoma diagnosed during infancy
Dr. Danielle Novetsky Friedman
Analysis among 5-year survivors of neuroblastoma in the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study diagnosed before age one year between 1970 and 1999 found a relatively low burden of late mortality and subsequent malignancies, although rates were higher than what is seen in the general population. The risk of severe/life-threatening/fatal chronic health conditions declined among survivors diagnosed in more recent decades, which may reflect deintensification of therapy over time. There is a need for longer follow-up of this young cohort for late-occurring adverse events.
