Long-term incidence of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma in patients with low-grade intraepithelial neoplasia: impact of surveillance endoscopy
Prof. Wanqing Chen
Surveillance endoscopy is recommended for patients with low-grade intraepithelial neoplasia (LGIN). High-quality evidence about the use of surveillance endoscopy and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is limited. A community-based, multicenter, prospective cohort study in China investigated the long-term ESCC incidence rates in patients with LGIN and the association between surveillance endoscopy and ESCC incidence. In this study, patients with LGIN had a higher risk of developing ESCC than the general population. Endoscopic surveillance was associated with a decrease in ESCC incidence among these patients.
