Long noncoding RNA expression indepently predicts outcome in pediatric acute myeloid leukemia
Dr. Jason Farrar
Optimized strategies for risk classification are essential to tailor therapy for patients with biologically distinctive disease. Risk classification in pediatric acute myeloid leukemia (pAML) relies on detection of translocations and gene mutations. A multicenter study in the USA found that the 37-gene-based long noncoding RNA expression classifier ‘lncScore’ enhanced predictive power of traditional cytogenetic-defined risk stratification in pediatric AML, with potential, as a single assay, to replace these complex stratification schemes with comparable predictive accuracy.
