Laparoscopic sentinel node navigation surgery (LSNNS) has been suggested to improve quality of life by stomach preservation in long-term survivors of early-stage gastric cancer. A randomized noninferiority study in South Korea compared LSNNS versus laparoscopic standard gastrectomy (LSG) in these patients. LSNNS did not show noninferiority to LSG for the primary outcome 3-year disease-free survival, with a 5% margin. Patients in the LSNNS group did have better physical function, less symptoms, and improved nutrition compared with patients in the LSG group.
