A retrospective cohort study based on data of 1274 general practices in Germany between January 2000 and December 2018 (100,124 heart failure patients and 100,124 individually matched control patients without heart failure) found that heart failure was significantly associated with incidence of cancer during ten years of follow-up (HR 1.76; p<0.001). The association was seen in men as well as women. The strongest association was seen for cancer of lip, oral cavity, and pharynx (HR 2.10; p<0.001).
