Incident comorbidities after adjuvant tamoxifen or aromatase inhibitor therapy for breast cancer
Prof. Allison Kurian
As survival with early-stage, hormone receptor (HR)-positive breast cancer had improved, it is essential to understand the long-term risks of incident comorbidities with different adjuvant endocrine therapy options. A retrospective study in a diverse contemporary breast cancer cohort found that among patients with early-stage HR-positive HER2-negative the only incident comorbidity that differed between adjuvant tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitor therapy was osteoporosis
. The authors conclude that these results may reassure patients who have bothersome symptoms on AIs that they are unlikely to develop worse comorbidities if they switch to tamoxifen.
