Impact of patient-specific clinical features on real-world effectiveness of osimertinib for EGFR mutated non-small cell lung cancer

Osimertinib is prescribed to patients with EGFR mutated metastatic non-small cell lung cancer. The dose is 80 mg once daily, regardless of patient characteristics. A real-world retrospective study at four centers in The Netherlands found that among patient receiving osimertinib for EGFR mutated metastatic non-small cell lung cancer, primary EGFR exon 19 deletion (versus other EGFR mutations) was associated with longer progression-free survival, while low body mass index, male sex, and high plasma trough concentration in steady state were associated with shorter progression-free survival. Age was not associated with effectiveness of osimertinib. The authors conclude that these data suggest that osimertinib treatment strategies can be tailored to improve outcomes among EGFR mutated metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (visual abstract).
