A nationwide prospective cohort study in South Korea (78.3 million person-years follow-up) investigated the impact of glycemic status on the association between light-to moderate alcohol consumption and the risk of biliary tract cancer (BTC). Light-to-moderate alcohol consumption was associated with increased BTC risk in individuals with prediabetes and diabetes, but not in normoglycemic participants. The authors conclude that complete avoidance of alcohol consumption may help reduce the risk of BTC in (pre)diabetic patients.
