Impact of belantamab mafodotin-induced ocular toxicity on outcomes of patients with advanced multiple myeloma
Dr. Prashant Kapoor
Belantamab mafodotin(BLMF) is a BCMA-directed antibody-drug conjugate, that was approved last year by the FDA and the EMA as monotherapy for advanced multiple myeloma. A study at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN) found ocular toxicity in 75% of patients receiving BLMF for advanced MM. Discontinuation or dose reduction was required in 14% and 11% of patients, respectively, resulting in progression of MM within a median of 3 months (95% CI 0,2-NR). The authors conclude that ocular toxicity is a major deterrent to the continuous use of BLMF in routine clinical practice.
