HRQOL and symptoms in phase 3 ORIENT-11 trial of first-line sintilimab plus chemotherapy for LA/M non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer

The multicenter phase 3 ORIENT-11 trial in China found improved progression-free surivval and overall survival with addition of sintilimab versus placebo to pemetrexed-platinum chemotherapy for previously untreated locally advanced or metastatic non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (LA/M nsqNSCLC). Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in the trial have now been published. Sintilimab plus chemotherapy stabilized or improved health-related quality of life and symptoms and delayed time to deterioration in multiple PRO scales compared with placebo plus chemotherapy. The QLQ-C30 pain scale score gradually deteriorated in the placebo-chemotherapy group with increased treatment, whereas it improved in the sintilimab-chemotherapy group. The authors conclude that these results, along with the previously published efficacy and safety results, support addition of sintilimab to standard chemotherapy as first-line treatment for LA/M nsqNSCLC.
