Global burden of cancer in 2020 attributable to alcohol consumption
Dr. Isabelle Soerjomataram
A global population-based study found that in 2020 741,300 new cases of cancer were attributable to alcohol consumption (4.1% of all new cases). Males accounted for 76.7%, and cancers of the oesophagus, liver, and breast contributed the most cases. Population attributable fractions were lowest in northern Africa (0.3%) and western Asia (0.7%), and highest in eastern Asia (5.7%) and central and eastern Europe (5.6%).
