Genomic determinants of early recurrences in low-stage low-grade endometrioid endometrial carcinoma
Dr. Britta Weigelt
Low-stage, low-grade endometrioid endometrial carcinoma (EEC) typically has a favorable prognosis. A subset of these cancers, however, display an aggressive clinical course with early recurrences, including distant relapses. A study at Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston) and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York, NY) investigated genomic determinants of early recurrences in stage IA/IB grade 1 EECs treated with surgery alone. Chromosome 1q gain, PIK3CA mutation, and DNA mismatch repair-deficient molecular subtype were independent predictors of recurrences within 3 years.
