Fracture risk among older cancer survivors compared with older adults without a history of cancer
Dr. Erika Rees-Punia
The number of cancer survivors is increasing. Cancer survivors may be at increased risk of bone fractures, but research is limited. A cohort study using data from 92.431 older adults found that older adults with a history of cancer, compared with older adults without such history, had an elevated risk of bone fracture. Chemotherapy and current smoking were associated with higher fracture risk among survivors, while physical activity was not statistically significant associated with fracture risk.
