FOLFIRI with or without bevacizumab as second-line option for advanced neuroendocrine carcinoma

There is no standard second-line treatment after failure of platinum-etoposide chemotherapy for gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine carcinoma. The randomized phase 2 PRODIGE 41-BEVANEC trial, at 26 centers in France, evaluated FOLFIRI with or without bevacizumab as second-line option for locally advanced or metastatic gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine carcinoma or neuroendocrine carcinoma of unknown primary origin. The 6-months overall survival rate was 60% (80% CI 51-68) in the FOLFIRI group and 53% (43-61). The authors conclude that FOLFIRI could be considered as a standard second line treatment in this setting. Addition of bevacizumab did not increase the benefit in terms of overall survival.
