Five-year results of a multinational randomized phase 2 trial of neoadjuvant T-VEC plus surgery versus surgery alone for advanced melanoma

Risk of recurrence after surgical resection remains high for patients with advanced melanoma. Talimogene laherperepvec (T-VEC) is an intralesional oncolytic viral immunotherapy. A multinational randomized phase 2 trial compared neoadjuvant T-VEC plus surgery versus surgery alone for resectable advanced melanoma. Five-year follow-up results of the study found better recurrence-free survival, event-free survival, and overall survival in the group with neoadjuvant T-VEC. The safety of T-VEC was acceptable. The authors conclude that these results support further investigation of neoadjuvant T-VEC for the treatment of resectable high-risk melanoma.
