Anaplastic oligodendroglial tumors (AOTs) are chemotherapy-sensitive brain tumors. Two pahse 3 studies iniated in the 1990s evaluated addition of (neo)adjuvant procarbazine, lomustine, and vincristine (PCV) chemotherapy to radiotherapy for newly-diagnosed AOTs. Analysis of final results of the studies showed that addition of PCV to radiotherapy was associated with improved outcomes among all patients and among patients with 1p/19q codeleted tumors. The authors conclude that long-term survival was possible in a significant proportion of patients with newly diagnosed AOTs.
