Final outcomes of a phase 2 trial of high-dose versus standard dose of thoracic radiotherapy for limited stage small cell lung cancer
Prof. Bjørn Henning Grønberg
A randomized phase 2 trial in Norway, Denmark, and Sweden compared high-dose (60 Gy/40 fractions) versus standard dose (45 Gy/30 fractions) twice daily thoracic radiotherapy in patients receiving chemoradiotherapy for limited-stage small cell lung cancer. The high dose was well tolerated. Median overall survival in the high-dose group was 43.5 months, compared with 22.5 months in the standard-dose group (HR 0.68; p=0.037). The authors conclude that twice-daily thoracic radiotherapy 60 Gy in 40 fractions was well tolerated and prolonged survival compared with 45 Gy in 30 fractions.
