The randomized phase 2 SAFRON II trial, at 13 centers in Australia and New Zealand, compared single-fraction SABR (28 Gy) versus 4 fractions of 12 Gy each in patients with one to three pulmonary metastases from any non-hematological malignancy. Final analysis of the trial showed that single-fraction SABR was not inferior to multifraction SABR. In this patient population, where patient receive SABR in lieu of systemic therapy, on-in-three patients were alive without disease in the long term.
