The association between familial plasma cell disorders and prognosis in patients with MGUS, multiple myeloma, and systemic light chain amyloidosis has not been well described. A retrospective study at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN) found that having a family history of plasma cell disorders was associated with longer overall survival among patients with MGUS (HR 0.52; p<0.001), multiple myeloma (HR 0,68; p<0.001), or systemic AL amyloidosis (HR 0.60; p=0.003).
