Demographics of patients receiving CAR T-cell therapy in the United States
Dr. Josephine Emole
It is not clear if all Americans have benefitted equally from the availability of chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CART) therapy. Analysis of the National Inpatient Sample database investigated demographic characteristics of adult patients receiving CART therapy in 2018. The analysis showed that White patients
and residents of metropolitan areas were overrepresented among receivers of CART therapy. Observed demographic differences were not associated with treatment outcomes or inhospital mortality. Male sex, neurotoxicity, and higher Charlson Comorbidity Index were significant predictors of inhospital mortality.
