Pooled analysis of results of the St Jude Lifetime Cohort and the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study investigated the contributions of various factors to the elevated risk of subsequent neoplasms in survivors of childhood cancer. The analysis found that cancer treatments and genetic predisposition are primary contributors to the risk of subsequent neoplasms, whereas lifestyle factors seem to have a minimal effect. The authors conclude that these results highlight the need to consider both treatment history and genetic factors in developing effective risk assessment and surveillance strategies for this vulnerable population.
