Long-term data from clinical trials show that survival curves of patients receiving first-line immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) for advanced melanoma gradually reach a plateau. It is not yet clear whether this also holds true for patients in clinical practice. A cohort study using prospectively collected data from the Dutch Melanoma Treatment Registry included 2490 patients receiving first-line ICIs for advanced melanoma from 2012 to 2019 outside clinical trials. The curves for progression-free survival (A), overall survival (B), and melanoma-specific survival (C) flattened over time. The authors conclude that patients receiving first-line ICIs for advanced melanoma have a chance of achieving long-term survival.
