Cohort study of association of age at new-onset nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and cancer risk
The onset age of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is decreasing. It is unclear whether earlier ages of NAFLD are associated with increased cancer risk. In the Kailuan Cohort study in China (63,696 participants with different ages), NAFLD was associated with increased cancer risk. Younger onset age of NAFLD
was associated with greater risk of cancer. The authors conclude that these results suggest that timely intervention in the progression of NAFLD may be associated with decreased incidence of NAFLD-related cancers.
