Cognitive impairment with chemoendocrine versus endocrine therapy for breast cancer: secondary analysis of RxPONDER
dR. Irene Kang
Breast cancer treatment is associated with cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI). Prespecified secondary analysis of the multinational phase 3 randomized RxPONDER trial of women with HR-positive HER2-negative breast cancer evaluated CRCI in women receiving chemoendocrine therapy (CET) compared with women receiving endocrine therapy (ET) alone. The analysis included 568 participants assessed at 6, 12, and 36 months and found that CET had a greater negative association with patient-reported CRCI compared with ET alone, both in the premenopausal and the postmenopausal groups. The authors conclude that interventions to prevent and treat CRCI are needed (visual abstract).
