Clinical and molecular characteristics of HER2-low-positive breast cancer

Prof. Carsten Denkert

Pooled analysis of individual patient data from four prospective, noeadjuvant breast cancer trials in Germany showed that HER2-low positive tumors can be identified by standardized IHC and should be considered as a new subgroup of breast cancer, distinct from HER2-zero tumors. HER2-low-positive tumors have a specific biology and (compared with HER2-zero tumors) show differences in response to therapy and prognosis, which is particularly relevant in therapy-resistant, hormone receptor-negative tumors.
