Avelumab first-line maintenance for advanced urothelial carcinoma: results from JAVELIN Bladder 100 after ≥ 2 years of follow-up

The multinational phase 3 JAVELIN Bladder 100 trial randomized patients who were progression-free after first-line platinum-containing chemotherapy for advanced urothelial carcinoma (aUC) to avelumab plus best supportive care (BSC) maintenance or BSC alone. Results of the trial after a minimum of two years of follow-up have now been published. Overall survival and investigator progression-free survival were improved with avelumab plus BSC maintenance over BSC alone. No new safety signals were identified. The authors conclude that longer follow-up continues to show clinically meaningful efficacy benefits with avelumab first-line plus BSC maintenance over BSC alone.
