Atezolizumab plus bevacizumab for advanded, progressive neuroendocrine tumors
Dr. Daniel Halperin
Therapies for patients with advanced well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) have expanded but remain inadequate. Preclinical data suggest activity of combination of PD-L1 blockade and VEGF blockade in NETs. The pancreatic (pNET) and extrapancreatic (epNET) NET cohorts of a phase 2 basket trial evaluated the combination of atezolizumab plus bevacizumab for advanced, progressive, grade 1 or 2 NETs. Objective response was seen in 20% of the pNET patients and 15% of the epNET patients; the PFS was 14.9 and 14.2 months, respectively. The authors conclude that the combination of atezolizumab and bevacizumab may result in clinical responses of pNETs and epNETs.
