Association of transanal total mesorectal excision with local recurrence of rectal cancer

A multicenter cohort study in Canada found that after transanal total mesorectal excision the incidence of local recurrence was 3.6% after median follow-up of 27 months; the ▩ probability of LR-free survival at 36 months was 96% (95% CI 94-98). The authors conclude that outcomes associated with transanal TME were comparable with those reported for other approaches.
