Studies have shown that delayed initiation of surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy is associated with lower rates of breast cancer survival. It is not yet clear whether delayed initation of adjuvant hormone therapy (AHT) is associated with survival. Analysis of the National Cancer Database evaluated the association of AHT timing with overall survival among patients not receiving chemotherapy for HR-positive, HER2-negative early breast cancer. The analysis showed that delay of adjuvant hormone therapy past 150 days after surgery was associated with diminished survival. The authors conclude that efforts should be made to address factors associated with delayed treatment.
