Association of nativity with survival among adults with hepatocellular carcinoma in California
Dr. Kali Zhou
Nativity or birthplace impacts incidence and risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but little is known about its influence on survival after HCC diagnosis. Analysis among adult Californian patients with hepatocellular carcinoma found that foreign-born patients have better survival than US-born patients, with five-year survival rates 12.9% versus 9.6% among White patients, 11.7% versus 9.8% among Hispanic patients, 12.1% versus 8.1% among Black patients, and 16.4% versus 12.4% among Asian/Pacific Islander patients. The authors conclude that further investigation into mechanisms of this survival disparity by nativity is needed.
