Association of multiple high-risk factors with real-world outcomes with first-line therapy for advanced ovarian cancer

Most patients with ovarian cancer respond to first-line treatment, but approximately 70% experience disease progression and require further treatment. Retrospective analysis of data of stage III or IV realt-world ovarian cancer patients in the Flatiron Health database found that time to next treatment and overall survival were shorter with increasing number of known risk factors. The authors conclude that the study underscores the importance of assessing a patient’s cumulative risk profile rather than the impact of individual high-risk factors. This also highlights the potential of bias in cross-trial comparisons of median progression-free survival because of differences in risk-factor distribution among patient populations.
