Association between residual cancer burden after neoadjuvant chemotherapy and long-term survival in breast cancer
Prof. Fraser Symmans
A multicenter pooled analysis of 5161 patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery for primary stage I to III breast cancer found that residual cancer burden after neoadjuvant chemotherapy was independently prognostic in the whole cohort
and in all subtypes of breast cancer. The authors conclude that prospective evaluation of residual cancer burden could be considered to become part of standard pathology reporting after neoadjuvant therapy.
