Association between androgen deprivation therapy for non-metastatic prostate cancer and long-term CVD and all-cause mortality
Prof. Tone Bjørge
Studies have suggested that prostate cancer (PCa) patients receiving androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) are at increased risk of developing or exacerbating cardiovascular disease. A nationwide, longitudinal study in Norway found an association between use of ADT in the first year after non-metastatic PCa diagnosis and composite CVD (aHR 1.13; 95% CI 1.05-1.21), myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure, and all-cause mortality (aHR 1.49; 95% CI 1.39-1.61). These associations persisted in those with baseline low and moderate CVD risk and patients with ADT duration longer than 7 months.
