Analysis in the St. Jude Lifetime cohort evaluated the prevalence and associated cardiovascular risks of specific lipid abnormalities among childhood cancer survivors. Among survivors without a previous diagnosis of dyslipidemia, abnormal LDL-C was seen in 4%, abnormal non-HDL-C in 6%, abnormal HDL-C in 30%, and elevated triglycerides in 17%. Survivors had higher LDL-C and non-HDL-C and lower HDL-C than community controls. These abnormalities were associated with increased risks of myocardial infarction and cardiomyopathy.
