Adjuvant trastuzumab with or without chemotherapy for pT1N0 HER2+ breast cancer

Analysis of the National Cancer Database found that among patients with pT1N0 HER2+ breast cancer and tumors <2 cm, adjuvant trastuzumab plus chemotherapy resulted in modest OS advantage compared to adjuvant HER2 monotherapy (5-year OS 94.1% versus 90.6%; p=0.041). The authors conclude that in selected patients who have contraindications for cytotoxic chemotherapy, or decline adjuvant chemotherapy, adjuvant trastuzumab monotherapy is a reasonable alternative for chemo-HER2 therapy.
