A novel transcriptomic signature for prediction of response to adjuvant chemotherapy in stage II and III gastric cancer
Dr. Keisuke Okuno
Researchers at the Institute of Science Tokyo (Japan) analyzed messenger RNA expression profiles to identify biomarkers of response of stage II and III gastric cancer to adjuvant chemotherapy. Nine novel mRNAs were identified as candidate biomarkers, and a Gene Expression-based ADJuvant chemotherapy Response prediction (Gex-ADJ-Res) signature was developed. The signature robustly predicted postoperative recurrence (AUC 0.84). The signature was successfully validated using three multi-institutional datasets (AUC 0.91, 0.85, and 0.78, respectively). The authors conclude that this signature could become a precision medicine tool in gastric cancer treatment.
