70-gene signature as an aid for treatment decisions in early breast cancer
Prof. Martine Piccart
After median 8.7 years of follow-up in the phase 3 MINDACT trial, the 70-gene signature still identified among breast cancer patients with high clinical risk a subgroup with an excellent distant metastasis-free survival when treated with endocrine therapy alone. For these women the magnitude of the benefit from adding chemotherapy to endocrine therapy remains small (2.6 percentage points) and is not enhanced by nodal positivity. However, among women younger than 50 years the benefit reaches a clinically relevant threshold of 5 percentage points.
